Impact & public engagement

Impact

I have also been involved with some other interesting projects:

High-Quality Research Support Scheme

Somali First is a joint project run by Somali organisation Transparency Solutions and the University of Bristol (UoB lead: Prof. Eric Herring). HQRS offered a full year of training for Somali early-career researchers beginning with six weeks of research training modules run out of the University of Hargeisa. I designed and taught the Gender and Social Research module. Between May and August each year I supervised a number of participants’ small-scale research projects.

PeaceCapacity

Until February 2018 I was the research associate and project officer on the ESRC-impact acceleration project PeaceCapacity (picture above). From the website: 'PeaceCapacity draws on the research of the EU-CIVCAP project. EU-CIVCAP has highlighted the lack of local ownership, and the need to fully integrate affected communities, in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Increased capacity/local ownership correlates with increased representativeness, improving the sustainability of peace processes, especially regarding vulnerable groups, e.g. women/minorities.' This relates to the Balkans and the Horn of Africa. You can read our Catalogue of Lessons Identified for for information.

Public engagement

I have always enjoyed bringing my research to the public, through panels, lectures and workshops. I especially enjoy working with young people and several times have undertaken work with schools. If you would like me to speak to your school please do get in touch!
